Why Periods Are Late

November 6, 2019

Pregnancy isn’t the only reason for a late or missed period. If Aunt Flo hasn’t visited you in a bit, there can be a few other culprits:

Stress

A lot of women don’t realize the kind of effect that stress can have on their bodies. Not only can it make your period late, but it can also cause some other health issues—which can also make your period late! If you need help de-stressing, there are so many ways you can unwind after a long day. One of my favorite ways to relax is by doing some yoga! Nothing too crazy that will make you feel sore in the morning but just a few poses that will get you out of your head and feeling more chilled out.

Underweight

Something else that can cause your period to suddenly stop is being underweight. A weight below ten percent of a normal weight range for your height can

throw off your body, which in turn can throw off your hormones. Women who also do a lot of extreme exercises, such as running marathons or triathlons, can also be at risk for a stopped period.

Birth Control

Birth control is known as one of the best and most effective ways to regulate your period, but for some, that’s not the case. You can experience more irregular periods within the first 3 months of starting a new method of birth control and can even out over time. If it continues to happen for longer than 3 months, consider seeing your doctor.

Chronic Conditions

Some women who have chronic conditions can sometimes experience late or missed periods. For example, if you have celiac but you have gluten, that could create a domino effect and make your period late.

If you think you’re dealing with any of these issues and they’re affecting your menstrual health in a negative way, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor. And if your period is even a little unpredictable, you can always feel prepared when you have on a pair of Ruby Love period-proof underwear!
