Essential Oils For That Time Of The Month

Essential oils can be a great alternative for over the counter pain medication. If you don't like or want to take pills to ease your period symptoms, and we don't blame you! It’s easy to start relying on them so we are here to give you a natural alternative to those pills! (Of course if you are ever in severe pain please reach out to your doctor.) Keep on reading for our guide to essential oils during your period.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint isn't just a delicious syrup you can put in your holiday drinks in the winter, their oils also can also be used to ease some period symptoms too! Peppermint oil is great for relieving inflammation, can calm down headaches, and can even wake you up a little bit! Your fluctuating hormones during this time can make you tired and give you headaches so at this point anything you try is a step in the right direction for relieving these symptoms. The best way to use this oil is to sprinkle a little bit of the oils into the bottom of your shower and the steam from the shower will help to make it go into the air, almost like a DIY essential oil diffuser.

Lavender Essential Oil

These oils are amazing for so many reasons. First off, it smells amazing. Lavender smells so dang good. Second of all, it’s great for helping out with some period symptoms. For example, it is great as a muscle relaxant which in turn helps out with cramps before and during your period. Lavender is also amazing for helping your mood. It’s known to have calming properties that are great for anxiety. So if you’re one of those people who get a little skittish and anxious while on your period, never fear… lavender is here! The best way to use lavender is also in the shower or in an essential oil diffuser. But remember, only use a very little bit, lavender can be VERY strong.

Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil

Another essential oil that is great if you need to just basically chill out and calm down during your period is ylang-ylang oil. If you suffer from some period induced anxiety or even depression (known sometimes as PMDD), this type of oil could be really helpful to you. Of course, it’s not a solution to the anxiety you may feel but it helps to just try something and have it work for a little bit. The best way to use this oil is to also put this in a diffuser or in the shower.

Rose Essential Oil

Last but not least (because this oil will definitely be able to help you out) is rose oil! Roses are amazing. They can be used to show your affection to someone, they look amazing in a garden, and they can be used to help things… move along. Okay, hear me out. During your period it's completely normal to feel a little backed up. Hey, that's totally alright. It happens! And when that does happen, you wanna be able to relive that problem ASAP. Rather than taking laxatives that could be harmful to your body, try rose oil! It is safe to ingest as long as you buy a food grade version. You can put in a few drops in some water or even in some tea!
